The scene has a nice mood, although it doesn't make much sense. It's quite obvious Sam has been overdubed (as he speaks only when he has his chin down or when he's seen from the back). In the european cut, the sequence with Sam is longer: we first see him attending a black kid. Then he pushes Joanne Nail's wheelchair to his "office", which is actually an empty waiting room as seen on Mike's still. The conversaton starts there, only after that do we go to the evening sun lit room. For me it was the hit of 1978, next to STAR WARS (I was eleven then). I love roadmovies, and this is one of the best. I think the hard work that was put into the film paid off, thanks to the great action, multiple camera angles etc. it is still fresh. One has to judge this film separately from Peckinpah's other films I think. I was a bit like Clint doing EVERY WHICH WAY in 1978, nobody took it seriousely (but people loved it - at the box office. CONVOY is Sam's most successful film, moneywise.).<br />You might enjoy my PASSION & POETRY DVD.
