My favourite. So I guess this release is going to have to join the other ones I have of that film...

How does the quality of the image compare to the previous BD releases?

Out of the interviews, is it just the Katy Haber one that's not on the Twilight Time release? Does she share anything "new" so to speak?

Will your audio commentary blow the Twilight Time one out of the water? (Thinking about it, I'm not sure if I've actually managed to sit down and listen to the TT one yet)

;D

I already have the Italian and US Blu-rays and my budget might not be able to extend to triple dipping  :(  It all depends on how strong my will power is...

MASTER: I have only the TT. I suppose it will be the same MGM master. I really like it, younger generations may less so. For me it looks just right - very good resolution, right amount of grain, very good colors (true to its 1974 look!). There are some scratches and so-called dirt (in fact little tiny damages on the print appearing white on-screen) but I think it fits this film perfectly. It should look like the theatrical presentation it was 42 years ago, not too clean-cut, degrained and modern color graded. Many, so many images look like paintings now. It is the only Sam-Film I never saw in a cinema - I always liked it but since owning it in HD quality I really love it.

That does look nice! Does your commentary have English subs?

No, that would have been too expensive. At first I wanted to record it in English as well, as I did on my own Peckinpah DVD. But again, I would have to pay for it myself. It becomes more and more difficult to get such extra-loaded products under way. Sales are going down.

But I'm glad they used the better of the two GARCIA HD masters.

Are there any choice highlights you could share with us here?

The one used in Italy and the US, right? Not the French one.

Were there any really interesting bits of information in the commentary that you could share here?

Oh, I see. 'Guess I'd have to listen to it myself (which I will hardly do). Talking for 110 minutes is quite a lot of information and I tend to go for a lot of information. I can't stand commentaries without much going on, I switch them off half of the time. But I always make a lot of notes, maybe I din't throw them away yet. Without notes I couldn't do it - all alone. The US scholars do it within a group of four people, it is much easier to fill out two hrs that way. I'm sure we covered a lot of similar stories and observations, I'd have to listen to their commentary (I only checked out Nick talking to Gordy Dawson).
You know the story when they prepared the "rape" scene? Isela climbed on the highest rock, took off her top and yelled "Everybody! Look at these two! Look as long as you want! So you don't have to stare later on when I'm working!" What a woman.

I hadn't heard that before  :o Sounds like a pretty sensible move though.

I don't like doing commentaries very much. I'd love to sit down with two or three colleagues and do it, but talking all by yourself is a different show - I have to research for at least a day or two to get enough material together to fill out all that time. (nobody pays you for that of course).
The good thing is, I learn a lot myself. I see details in films I never saw before (I'm not too good spotting goofs etc.). For instance when Chalo & Jorge search for Alfredo in the early montage scene, on their sheet of paper "Aristos" is written. That was the crews hotel. And "Barbarella"! That is a nice joke. The mob guys have a Picasso on the wall (50s "Bullfighter" series). All those cameo's (Katy, Richard Wright, Sharon Peckinpah, Whitey Hughes, Peckinpah's brother in law...), the Nixon jokes (funny dollar bill on the wall behind Oates in the bar, the Time magazine cover)....
