12 24 2009 overdue last minute update
This forum was started as a place for fans of Sam Peckinpah to gather and from the early stages author and filmmaker Mike Siegel has been an enthusiastic player. He is the moderator and he has worked with me and put up with many bumps along the road as I struggled to get the forum going. This year, after much anticipation, he has released his documentary on
Peckinpah: ‘Passion & Poetry - The Ballad of Sam Peckinpah’. This is a labor of love that he made and released almost entirely on his own. There is something to be found in the film for everyone, no matter whether you are an expert on Peckinpah or new to his story. Because Mr. Siegel is distributing the film himself it has to be purchased online. The DVD is a German release but all of the features are in English. There are even separate English and German commentary tracks. The DVD is not region locked but it is a PAL DVD so you need to make sure you can play it. Buying the DVD will support an independent filmmaker who worked literally years to make a documentary that is required viewing for fans of Sam Peckinpah. I cannot recommend ‘Passion & Poetry - The Ballad of Sam Peckinpah’ enough and supporting a passionate filmmaker that went his own way and it didn’t compromise is a good thing. Mike never once asked me to do this (even though he could have) and he has not gotten the full support from some of the DVD review sites that he should have. The exception is the great DVDTimes and you can see their review of the documentary HERE. Yes, Mike has been kind to me but even with my bias I can safely say ‘Passion & Poetry - The Ballad of Sam Peckinpah’ is a must own and worth a blind purchase on principle alone. In the forum is a thread about Mr. Siegel's film that has some high resolution scans of the box and DVDs if you want to see them. You can purchase it on Siegel’s official site El Dorado HERE or by clicking the cover image above. -Nate B.

My last update turned out to be a bit premature. I was on track but unfortunately my computer decided to stop working and thus the forum has been delayed yet again. I am hoping that over the weekend I can make some updates and get it up and running early next week. Things won't be quite as spiffy as I wanted them to be but I am working as I go. -Nate B.

You will have to forgive the cheesy title but “Earned in Blood” just seemed to fit a forum dedicated to filmmaker Sam Peckinpah. I am slowly updating everything and will hopefully get this site loaded with info on Peckinpah and his films. For the time being, click the above forum link to join up if you happen to stumble upon this page. -Nate B.
