032907 Drew Hayes 1969 - 2007.

You know it is just a bummer... While growing up I read a lot of comic books. More often than not I read off kilter comics that had little to do with the superheroes that the medium is known for. Sure, I read the occasional ‘Batman’ comic but mostly I preferred the non-superhero persuasion. As a teenager in the 90’s I read some comics that were independently published or that had at least started out as independently published comics. One such example was a comic called ‘Poison Elves’. I remember reading issues in high school and reading about how its creator Drew Hayes started out publishing magazine-style issues himself. He developed a following and was picked up by a publisher. ‘Poison Elves’ was a gothic fantasy comic with a dark sense of humor and plenty of style. Probably, there were those that did not like Hayes art but for me it worked well with material and was part of what made it unique. I can’t remember exactly how many issues I read but I remember checking up on the series when I was in college. ‘Poison Elves’ had a small and dedicated following that would often have their letters answered by Hayes. I know I would check up on Hayes and ‘Poison Elves’ from time to time but it had been years since I last did. For whatever reason I decided to look and see what was going on yesterday and much to my dismay I discovered that Drew Hayes had just passed away! He was only 37 and leaves behind a daughter. His

comics are forever a part of my teenage years and I was looking forward to checking out his upcoming work. Hayes will be missed. Have a drink, what ever your poison, to Mr. Hayes, wherever he is. The Comics Reporter wrote a brief article on Hayes passing that can be seen HERE. Cheers.

032807 TMNT returns....

So back in January I wrote that I thought the latest ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ looked pretty weak. As a follow up I will say that beyond the movie grossing 24 million this past weekend it also got some decent reviews. Like I said in January I could be wrong this could be a great film but anyway I cut it the trailer and teasers just don’t look that good to me. I’m still waiting for

the home theater to see the latest ‘TMNT’ outing. If you want a dark, gritty action/ fantasy film, I say give ‘300’ a try instead. I should be posting a review of that soon.

031907 A review of Breach.
Just added a review of the film 'Breach'. This is a great flic that I wish had a wider release in the theaters. Check out my review HERE.

031607 A review of The Amazing Screw-On Head.

What can I say about the pilot for 'The Amazing Screw-On Head'? Dag’ nabbit’ I loved this show! I though it did a great job of capturing Mike Mignola's artwork! The thing is, this was only place to see some of his stuff animated. The animated adaptations of Mignola’s ‘Hellboy’ comics are deliberately different in look and feel from their source. Why on earth could Sci-Fi Channel have made a whole season of it??? Sure it is an off-the-wall, sci-fi, horror, comedy but it was a lot of fun!  Hell, 'Walker Texas Ranger' was on TV for like 30 years, why not try a season or two of 'The Amazing Screw-On Head? Check out my review HERE.

030907 A new sketch comedy show....

I owe thanks to my friend Mike for showing me ‘The Whitest Kids U' Know’. This upcoming sketch comedy show will be premiering on the Fuse Network (a channel I sadly do not get). Fortunately for me, there are a few sketches up on the official Fuse site for ‘The Whitest Kids U' Know’ and the one titled ‘New Thing’ just kills me. Searching on the web I found another site for the comedy group and a Youtube page with a ton of sketches. Not all their stuff works for me but the sketches that do work, friggin’ kill me. Favorites of mine are 'Peeing’, ‘Race War’, 'Pregnancy Test', ‘Saturday’, ‘Super-size Me (With Whiskey!)’, and ‘Pizza bagels’ (personal fav'). I can’t say I’m a big fan of the promo poster made up for ‘The Whitest Kids U' Know’, it sort of makes me not want see the show. The stuff the group already made is much better but I suppose the firearms might have scared the Fuse channel. I suppose that’s a moot point anyway since I don’t get the channel... Still, for those of you that do, give ‘The Whitest Kids U' Know’ a try. According to their official page, they also have a cd that just got released (pictured left). You can purchase the cd HERE. The Fuse site for ‘The Whitest Kids U' Know’ is HERE. The Youtube

page for the group can be found HERE. The official homepage for the comedy group is HERE.

030807 ‘If Charlie Parker Was a Gunslinger, There'd Be a Whole Lot of Dead Copycats' has more....

Oh happy day! So, those of you who have wasted their time browsing this site might know that one of my favorite blogs is none other than ‘If Charlie Parker Was a Gunslinger, There'd Be a Whole Lot of Dead Copycats’. Consisting almost entirely of images from films, history, music, models, and just about anything you can think of it is both addicting and often updated. (The secret for success if you ask me.) Anywho’, I am happy to report that ‘If Charlie Parker Was a Gunslinger, There'd Be a Whole Lot of Dead Copycats’ has produced its own demon spawn. Blogmaster Tom Sutpen has started a new blog following his work writing a book called ‘The Tom Sutpen Book Project Blog’. While it contains no imagery thus far, I must say it too is oddly addicting. Good luck Mr. Sutpen!!! Check out ‘If Charlie Parker Was a Gunslinger, There'd Be a Whole Lot of Dead Copycats’ HERE and Sutpen’s new blog HERE.

030707 'Zodiac' review.

My review of ‘Zodiac’ is now online. The latest film from David Fincher is good but it was a bit long for me. Still, the film has good performances and enough solid scenes for me to recommend it. The review can be seen HERE.

030607 'Reno 911!: Miami' review.

My review of ‘Reno 911!: Miami’ is now up and available for your reading pleasure. The movie got mixed reviews but you know what? I found it pretty darn funny. See the review HERE.
