..082009 Apple 'Avatar' trailer problems lead me back to the great 'Twitch'.
. . . . . .Ever since I was a kid, I have loved many of James Cameron's films. After he risked much and won it all with 'Titanic' he worked on various projects but had not settled on a new theatrical film until 'Avatar'. Today was supposed to be the big online unveiling of the trailer but some problems on Apple's site sent goobers like myself scrambling to find it elsewhere. The great movie news site 'Twitch' posted an alternate source for a good quality trailer (which is from a French MSNBC site **(082109 now it is linked to a better youtube version)** and embedded above) and I was able to see the long awaited trailer. (Actually, by the time I got off my butt and posted this, Apple fixed whatever issues they had and you can find the links to their quicktime versions of the trailer below.) As for 'Avatar', it certainly looks pretty and the visual effects make the film look like some sort of highbrid' cross between a live action and computer animated film. I'm not exactly sure what I think of the film yet and am a little scared to admit that the first thing that popped into my head was Lucas's 'Star Wars' prequels which is not exactly the fist series you would like to be reminded of when watching a trailer. 'Avatar' has been in development so long that I just hope the film is enjoyable and a success for Cameron who has put so much into it. You can see the 'Avatar' trailer in quicktime 480p HERE, 720p HERE, and 1080p HERE. The official site for the film is HERE. As always, check out the coolest movie news at 'Twitch' HERE. -Nate

..081409 ‘District 9’ opens today and looks cooler and cooler
District 9 Trailer
. . . . . .I don’t know what it is exactly but the more I see of ‘District 9’, the better it looks. Plus, I was recently lucky enough to see a couple short films by Neill Blomkamp, the guy who wrote and directed ‘District 9’. Blomkamp looks to have a pretty extensive background in 3D animation and visual effects. If you haven’t seen the teaser trailer for ‘District 9’, do yourself a favor and check it out. I think this is the first time I am actually going to warn that what follows will have some minor spoilers for a trailer. Consider yourself warned. Part of what looks good about ‘District 9’ is the matter-of-fact way that the aliens are talked about. The amazement at the discovery of extra-terrestrials has worn off and now they are just a pain in the butt. I have no idea if the film will continue that theme or if it is about something else as the ‘District 9’ teaser certainly has some foreboding overtones. I
can’t explain it but there is something appealing about the notion of the special and the unusual becoming so pedestrian that people just become bored with it. I would say that is an interesting idea as it happens all the time in the news. You hear enough bad news over and over again, you become desensitized to it and consequently stop paying attention. That is where real danger lies. Of course, I could be way off with all this and even if I am, I sill want to see ‘District 9’. I was lucky enough to see ‘Alive in Joburg’, Blomkamp’s great short film that was the precursor to the upcoming ‘District 9’. ‘Alive in Joburg’ rocked and has only fed my interest in ‘District 9’. If you do get the chance to see ‘Alive in Joburg’ be warned that I suspect some of the moments in it may be minor spoilers for ‘District 9’. If you are like me, and you are itching for ‘District 9’, check one of the trailers or check the site HERE and look for the film in cinemas as of today. -Nate
